Philosopher David Schweickart, whom I debated in a well-attended event in 2007, decried the model of a participatory economy as “nonsense on stilts”, even giving that name to the title of an essay where he complained about the model.
That phrase has stuck, apparently too well, even though it’s been nearly two decades since Schweickart wrote his article. I’m thinking that advocates of the model need to come up with a catchy phrase to promote the model, perhaps multiple catchy phrases. I’m hoping this post will encourage readers to flex their creative muscles to come up with one or more promotional phrases.
I myself am partial to “another world is possible”, given that it’s already a well-known phrase and dovetails well to the hope exemplified by the model.
Own in commons
Freedom begins with one another
Decide together
Own better. Own together.
Life is better together.
More of us makes more for us.
Everything we have, in commons.
We have more in commons.
We have more in commons than you can imagine.
We can work it out.
We do better together.
Better together.
Imagine if we do it together.
There’s nothing we can’t do together.
