Hey all,
Been following participatory economics for a while and enjoyed the content I’ve watched and read so far!
I recently finished a first version of an economic model for the organisation called contributionism. The website is here - https://contributionism.co.
Contributionism is a fairly light model in the sense that it doesn’t specify how money, markets and governments should function. Instead it only focuses on the organisation. Contributionism is presented as an alternative to capitalism.
In regards to a participatory economy I am particularly interested in discussing:
- Participatory planning - I am a fan of the idea to experiment with planning processes that help to prevent the misuse of resources or the degradation of the environment. Democratic economic planning more broadly could be something that is adopted for high risk resources and situations where we have much less tolerance for misuse and environmental failures.
- Remuneration based on effort & sacrifice - Participatory economics advocates for individuals being compensated according to the effort and sacrifice they input, rather than their output or market value. I’m very interested in seeing any outcomes from experimentation of this or modelling data. A similar approach could be adopted by contributionist organisations in the model I have suggested. With contributionism, it is up to the contributors to collectively decide how to handle compensation and this approach could be one of the recommended ones.
- Experimentation efforts & progress - I would love to find out more about what experimentation has been started or completed already in regards to any of the ideas from the participatory economic model.
For contributionism, I am interested in any general feedback and thoughts that anyone has about the model so far. This is the first version that I have created over the last few months to get the ball rolling on these ideas.
I’m also particularly fond of the economic models of:
- Henry George (Georgism) - Advocates for a land value tax. Lots of content here - x.com
- Silvio Gesell (Gesellism) - Similarly an advocate for land based reforms and demurrage. A fantastic video series worth watching - silviogesell .com/video-course
All of my historical analysis is generally focussed on Web3 technology, and contributionism has been created with that analysis in mind. I believe Web3 will be the best frontier for economic evolution. Happy to discuss ideas any time!
I’m also available to join a call or any meetings if that’s where discussions are happening about the participatory economy and different ideas and experiments, let me know in the comments, thanks!
